Woolworths has become my favourite of the large retailers lately as they seem to have had a makeover. Everything is fresh and fun, and the ladies’ section is overflowing with the latest trends like pastels, neon, clashing prints, tropical and techno tribal… the list goes on. And they have very nice accessories (I snapped a bright flamingo print scarf) and homeware too. Since I have a very long wishlist of items from Woolworths this summer holiday I thought I would round up a few as suggestions for Christmas gifts.
Most women like beauty products and I found the Dune Goddess range perfect for the summer. Like the body lotion on the left all the products have a golden shimmer to make you really glow in the sun. There is also a body butter, cooling gel, body spritzer and bubble bath. I tried the tester in store and liked the effect. You won’t look like a disco ball; it is a very subtle sparkle. R69.95
One of my favourite clutches is this on-trend tribal print clutch. I saw it featured in a giveaway but have yet to find one in a store (R225).
And below is an example of a colourblock bag which will give a pop of colour this summer. There is quite a variety of bags and clutches with neon accents which will update any outfit. This one is R275.
Then in the accessories department I am really after a fun pair of parrot earrings. I couldn’t find a picture on the Woolworths website. I love the tropical trend!
But I did find a cute multi-colour cuff (R79.95). There are all sorts of parties and events this time of year and this is an opportunity to play dress up and add some bright accessories.
And then there is the tricky job of buying gifts for men. All my husband wants is a Ferrari, which is a bit out of my budget. The men in my family are very keen on wine, though, so I thought this neoprene 2-bottle wine carrier would be a good gift (R99.95). For the frequent flyers in the family I found a luggage scale (R140) which I thought might come in handy, and for the old-school bookworms not using iPads or Kindles, an LED book light (R69).
Lastly I found a few nice things for kids. My daughter has been asking for a doll house, and I found this large wooden Rosebud Doll House which looks beautifully made. It is R1500, so it really depends on whether you’re prepared to spend that much. The Rosebud doll family that goes with it is an additional R180, and then furniture is sold separately at R199 per room.
I am going with the Barbie nail polish set as a stocking filler (R69), but for moms with boys who are Spongebob fans there is a Spongebob character bubble bath (R99) which could be a hit. Personally I find Spongebob mildly disturbing, but what child doesn’t love bubbles? And speaking of bubbles, rounding off my top picks is the bubble machine below (R275).
