The next time you get the urge to plant a shrub, why not take a drive to Stodels Garden Centre in Durbanville and kill two birds with one stone? Or possibly three. Bring your kids along because there is enough to keep them entertained for half an afternoon, buy your plants and enjoy some lunch in the shade with a friend. We often go to the Stodels in Milnerton because it is close by and their restaurant has a nice play area with trampoline and jumping castle. It’s one of those places where you can relax without having to worry about your child getting lost or damaged. The other day we tried Stodels in Durbanville, and although there is a lot more to do entertainment-wise, I found it a little stressful keeping an eye on my child, and it definitely isn’t the most budget-friendly Stodels option either. Having said that, it definitely keeps the kids busy!
They can feed the goats, ponies, llamas (seriously) and rabbits as well as meet some pygmy marmosets. There is a duck pond area where you can interact with the ducks too. Aside from the usual jungle gyms, slides and trampoline there are also some activities which are separately charged for, like train rides, carousel, remote control cars and water bubbles. The water bubble was the highlight for my daughter (cost R25 for 10 minutes) but the queues were quite long. The best option is to pay and then return when you see the queue is shorter. She also had a ride in the remote control car (another R25 for about 5 minutes) while she was waiting. The play area and Dulce Cafe are situated right inside the garden centre so it is a nice, lush and shady location for lunch, and you can easily buy your plants, garden gnomes or whatever on the way out if you’re that way inclined. I’m not. Stodels is situated in Eversdal Road, Durbanville. I really recommend it; it is so much more than just a run-of-the-mill nursery.
