When I ordered some Hey Gorgeous goodies for my milestone giveaway a while ago I couldn’t help ordering this Mineral Mud Face & Body Mask for myself. It is always so difficult to choose products from their brochure because I inevitably want everything (and I know a lot of people have the same problem!) so I’m just trying one or two products at a time until I’ve tried them all, every single one.
I have really been suffering from dry skin lately, and I’m not sure whether it is the winter weather or what is causing it. The only thing that has been helping is Balm Balm face balm with some olive oil added on top to the flaky areas. To make matters worse my skin has been breaking out at the same time! I have been left utterly bewildered with no idea how to address the problem of severely confused skin. So I was hoping this mask would help.
The mask contains mineral-rich dead sea mud, bentonite clay and essential oils. I checked up on bentonite clay and it’s quite fascinating in its ability to absorb toxins. If you want to read a bit more about it, you can click here.
Since it is a mud mask you would expect it to feel and look like mud, but I was surprised and delighted by the gel-like texture this mask has. It felt so hydrating to apply and didn’t make me look like I’d fallen face first in a pig pen. In fact, the mask is quite translucent and not very noticeable on your face, so you could order a pizza while you have it on and not completely scare the delivery guy. It does dry after a while but as soon as you rinse it feels creamy and leaves your skin feeling smooth and clean, and importantly not dry or tight (as my kaolin-containing masks tend to do). The thing that makes me give this mask 10/10 is that I haven’t yet broken out and the flaky dryness on my forehead hasn’t returned since I’ve used it.
The bonus in my package of exciting Hey Gorgeous products was this sample of their Honey Papaya Pomegranate Facial Scrub. I am quite wary of granular scrubs. I generally find them wonderful at the time and then my skin inevitably breaks out a day or two later. Yes, my skin is sensitive and fussy! This scrub contains honey, oatmeal, brown sugar, grape seed, olive, soy and jojoba oils, pomegranate and papaya extracts. I found the brown sugar slightly harsh for my face but it was more than made up for by the amazingly soothing and moisturising honey and combination of oils. I had a stubborn dry patch on one cheek which had disappeared when I rinsed it off, and it has been 24 hours now and so far no beak-outs. The anti-bacterial benefits of the honey must be coming to the fore.
They do have a honey oatmeal scrub as well, which I am now putting in my next order. I think the oatmeal might be a bit softer and gentler than the brown sugar and still have the amazing honey smell and texture. I need to follow up with the friendly Hey Gorgeous ladies about that one. You can contact email@example.com for a brochure and to order, or follow them on Twitter.
