I am so in love with my Stila smudge crayons, and love the speedy ease of an eyeshadow crayon. I am just a bit let down by the limited range of colours that Stila has so I decided to try the Clinique Chubby Stick shadow tint for eyes. I chose Fuller Fudge which is a pretty fudgey caramel colour, and Portly Plum, because I have been looking for a plum shadow since winter began.
The price is similar to Stila’s version at R215, they are easy to apply and blend nicely, but unfortunately they don’t have the same staying power as Stila’s smudge crayons. I find they crease within a couple of hours, and the fuller fudge shade needs to be reapplied by midday as it fades. I have also tried it with Urban Decay eyeshadow primer and it still creased. You can imagine my consternation! The portly plum shade is also less plum than purple, but I am probably nitpicking now. The wide, rounded point is also not ideal for reaching the inner corners of your eye, whereas Stila’s have a great built-in sharpener so you can get more precision.
There is a wide range of shades, which I love, including navy blue, powder blue, lilac, plum, pink, beige, brown etc. I also like the chunky packaging and the ease of blending. I actually like the fuller fudge shade so much I don’t mind reapplying it halfway through the day, because let’s face it, it takes about 30 seconds to reapply. If I had to recommend one based on longevity I would say go for the Stila, but it you are after specific colours not in the Stila range then these are fun to use and very pretty.
