I’ve been waiting a long time to pluck up the courage to get something from Dior or Chanel because a) the counter ladies intimidate me and b) I was even more terrified of the prices. But I’ve discovered that even though I will never afford a Chanel handbag I can in fact handle a mascara or lipstick for under R400. I fact, the Diorskin Nude BB cream was R345, making it R50 less expensive than the Stila Beauty Balms, and I own two… So all it needed was a mental re-alignment and the courage to face the consultant, who by calling me ‘Madame’ in the French way (several times) proved quite amusing and very non-threatening.
I purchased my long-awaited Dior BB cream in shade 002 Fair, stared at it, Instagrammed it, but didn’t use it for a full 24 hours out of fear that it would disappoint me. It didn’t. It has the texture of a very light, thin foundation. I use my fingers to apply it, using only one pump worth for my whole face as it spreads like a dream. I love that it comes in a tube with an airtight pump which dispenses the perfect amount with no mess whatsoever. When applied it almost ‘becomes one’ with my skin and isn’t even noticeable, but I find the coverage is light but adequate and my skin looks more luminous and flawless. Shade 002 is the perfect match for my skin tone, which is NC20 (according to Findation, since I don’t actually wear MAC foundation).
I was worried that because it isn’t a creamy formula that it would reveal dry patches later in the day (my skin is dehydrated) but this doesn’t happen at all. It also doesn’t settle in any creases like laughter lines. It is long lasting, and although a few blemishes are a bit more noticeable by evening the product is definitely still in place.
I really don’t have anything negative to say about it, except for the fact it only has an SPF10, so you have to wear sunscreen under it. This is annoying, and puts this BB cream more into the ‘foundation’ bracket than the ‘all-in-one’ category. But I am willing to forgive this flaw because my skin really likes it, and I have a tricky skin to please – dehydrated and sensitive. I plan to wear the Stila Hydrating Primer SPF30 under it, so that would have a double benefit for me. I would be interested to hear how it works on oily or combination skin, but I personally give it two big thumbs up! This is what it looks like on. Note the happy face.
