Yes, I’ve been shopping at Stila again. People have said I ought to be given shares in Stila, and I tend to agree! After my lip & cheek stain review, which is the first less-than-glowing Stila review I’ve ever done, I’m back to singing their praises. I picked up their Hydrating Primer SPF30 about a week ago, and it has perfectly filled a gap in my makeup repertoire.
I had the chance to try this out before purchasing as I had my makeup done by Anastatia at Stila in Canal Walk and she used this together with the Illuminating Liquid Foundation. According to what is written on the tube itself its primary function seems to be sun protection, but there are so many more benefits. The light pink gel-lotion formula is very hydrating and leaves the skin looking and feeling dewy and moist. This is such a god-send for me, because I haven’t been able to wear foundation for a while due to my dehydrated skin. This has the double benefit of keeping skin hydrated enough not to get patchy during the day, as well as providing a much-needed SPF. This makes it perfect for wearing under my Dior BB cream which only has an SPF10 or my other foundations which have no SPF at all. My makeup also looks fresh and “just applied” right through the day. Here is what their website says about the primer’s functions and ingredients:
- Exclusive formulation provides hydration, soothes and refreshes the skin
- Broad spectrum UVA & UVB sunscreen SPF 30 protects the skin from the sun’s damaging rays
- Helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and provides firming benefits
- Lightweight formula
- Contains an array of skin protecting vitamins and antioxidants, such as asian ginseng, shea butter, avocado, hazelnut, jojoba oils, and echinacea
- Perfect for all skin types
This costs R330 and it’s worth every cent. If your skin is dry or dehydrated it is the perfect makeup primer and just feels lighter, more hydrating and more invisible than most sunscreens. I have been relying on my Stila BB cream for maximum hydration and high SPF, but now I feel I have more options as this makes up for lack of SPF or moisture-retaining abilities of other products which I otherwise love (like my new Dior BB cream and my faithful Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation).
