Be My Valentine

Whenever you think of Valentine’s Day you probably think of red and pink. But I am of the ‘less is more’ persuasion when it comes to Valentine’s Day (okay, so much ‘less’ that I basically don’t celebrate it) because if you want a simple truth, men probably find bright red lipstick scary. Unless they are Marc Jacobs. So I rounded up a few pretty pink goodies which would make great Valentine’s Day gifts for the makeup nuts out there or be used to create a soft, romantic makeup look. I’m a bit of a V-Day cynic but let’s see how we get on.

1. Pink blush is the best way to look pretty and flushed in a natural way. Some great options are the new Spring offerings from Chanel (middle left, shown in Chamade…don’t let the color in the compact scare you) and Dior’s bow-adorned blush called Pink Reverie. Physician’s Formula also has the prettiest, affordable, heart-embossed blush designed to lift your mood and give you a radiance boost.
2. Don’t forget some highlighter so you look lit from within…like you’re so happy you’re glowing *rolls eyes*…like a Bobbi Brown shimmer brick or limited edition brightening brick in pink (above bottom right). 3. Since mascara is a must I couldn’t help including the Lancome Alber Elbaz Hypnose Doll Lashes mascara  (top right) even though it was limited edition. They had it at Edgars last November, so there is a chance they still have a few in stock…or is that wishful thinking?. Anyway, I love the V-Day appropriate heart design!
4. Lastly, something soft, buttery and hydrating for lips will keep your lips kiss-worthy. By all means go all out and wear a red lip, but I think something gentler is better for a date night. The Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon is for the bold lip lovers, while the Korres Lip Butter will give lips a subtle tint (top left). The Stila Color Balm Lipsticks contain peppermint oil so will give your lips a fresh minty tingle.
5. Roses are perfect for Valentines Day, so a spritz of Balm Balm Rose Water Hydrosol (bottom left) will keep you feeling refreshed and cool and give your makeup some youthful dewiness. Pop it in the fridge beforehand if the 14th Feb is a scorcher.
