Esse has an exciting new product available from the end of this month, the Refining Cleanser, which I’ve been trying out for a few weeks and which I absolutely love. This is the perfect deep cleanser for oilier skins which will purify skin and lightly exfoliate.
My skin is more on the dry side, but I do have the occasional oily T-zone and I also suffer from quite a few breakouts around my chin. This cleanser is mildly foaming and contains bentonite clay which draws out toxins while very lightly exfoliating, and it also contains Kalahari melon oil which is a source of essential fatty acids to maintain the skin’s moisture balance. It is certified organic and cruelty free, so quite a special product in my opinion. It has a pleasant herbal scent, which I think of as the “Esse” scent.
Even with skin more on the dry side I can use this cleanser. I don’t use it every day, but on mornings where I wake up with my skin feeling a bit oilier than normal (often after I’ve used a facial oil overnight or heavier products). The best thing about this cleanser is that it can double as a detox mask, and I think all skins can benefit from a good detox once a week or so. Just apply the clay-textured cleanser to your whole face, leave it for 10 minutes or so and then wash off as normal. I love a good multi-tasking skincare product!
It costs R190 for a 150ml tube, and I think this is fantastic value for money. You only need a very small amount to cleanse and even if you use it as a weekly mask it goes a long way. You’re also essentially getting two products, a mask and a cleanser, in one. It is available from selected salons, spas and health stores. You can find a list of stockists on their website or check online stores such as Rubybox which stock Esse products.
