Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet

I’m going to say it upfront. This could be my new HG foundation. I was open minded about this product because I got it basically the minute it launched and I hadn’t read/watched very many reviews on it beforehand. All I was expecting was a slightly more matte formula than Vitalumiere Aqua and hopefully a bit more longevity. I am happy to report that it offers both, as well as a smidgeon more coverage and an amazing velvety finish which still looks glowing without being dewy.

I got shade B20 which is the same shade I use in VItalumiere Aqua, but swatched side by side the Perfection Lumière Velvet is ever-so-slightly darker. It still suits my skin tone really well though when I blend it properly into my neck. Perfection Lumière Velvet comes in identical packaging to the Vitalumiere Aqua, except the bottle is black. I think the packaging looks so classy and sleek, with the added bonus of it not being glass and therefore very easy to toss in your makeup bag.

I find the texture of this foundation fascinating. I prefer to apply the very thin liquid formula with my fingertips as it almost melts into your skin on contact and transforms to a slightly powdery finish. Because it dries quite quickly I like to apply it, blend it out, and then apply to the next area of my face. It is effortless to blend though, and it honestly doesn’t require a brush to get a streak-free finish with no visible lines. I also find that a tiny bit goes a long way, so I use tiny drops for each area of my face.

The coverage is light to medium, similar to Vitalumière Aqua, but can be built up enough to cover redness, dark spots or scars. Obviously it isn’t going to tackle a blemish head on and emerge victorious, but I prefer light, skin-like foundations with added concealer to heavy, full coverage ones. The thing I love most about this foundation is how it disappears into your skin and looks so natural.

As for longevity, although it is more matte and longer lasting than Vitalumiere Aqua, if you have an oily t-zone you will need to powder it. I definitely look less “dewy” as the day progresses and find that setting it with loose powder in the morning lasts me until late afternoon or early evening. I’ve definitely not needed to powder my nose as often since discovering this gem. Below I’m wearing Perfection Lumiere Velvet with bronzer and concealer.

This is going to be a matter of personal preference. I’m sure some people will not like this foundation and others will love it, depending on your skin type and what you look for in a foundation. If you prefer your foundation to feel very light on the skin, look very natural and have light to medium coverage, then you might just love this offering. It retails for R550.

I plan on getting colour matched and testing this out. I tried the VA version, but something about it just didn’t wow me. I’m hoping this version will change my mind!

I really really really want to get my hands on this…will have to pinch my eyes shut when I get to the till and just hand over my credit card! 🙂

By the way, MAC Face & Body is quite sheer and if you have combo / oily skin it won’t work for you. I went to MAC to get a small sample to try out and I turned into a grease ball by lunch time. I also find it slides everywhere on the face (even when set with a powder).

Sorry to butt in like that haha! 🙂

I think it would be worth it. My nose and chin especially get quite oily lately during the day and this definitely lasts longer. I do set my t-zone with powder and then sometimes re-powder my nose in the afternoon, but I definitely don’t look really oily and the texture is just amazing. Even swatching it on your hand doesn’t quite give the real effect of how it melts in and goes slightly powdery. It’s weird, but I love it. Also you only need a TINY bit so I think this 30ml bottle will last ages, so it makes the price a little more worth it. And thanks for the MAC info, it is helpful and I hope Saffiya reads it!
