It wasn’t too long ago when I said I wouldn’t ever do a fragrance review because I’m hopeless at describing scents. I eat my words. Well, this isn’t exactly a review. It’s more like me giving a shout out to my new BFF, the Korres Vanilla Freesia Lychee EDT.
And luckily for me, Fragrantica saved me some time and described it for me:
What Fragrantica says:
“Vanilla Freesia Lychee radiates a seductive and intoxicating aroma of vanilla, combined with the South African freesia and juicy lychee. The top notes are bergamot and tea. The heart is floral and fruity with lychee, peach, freesia, jasmine and sandalwood, laid on the base of vanilla, patchouli and musk.”
I knew I wanted this the first time I tested it in store, and I decided to buy it for myself with the voucher I got for Mother’s Day. Buying myself a new scent has become a bit of a Mother’s Day tradition for me (last year I bought Valentina by Valentino). You would think that with the freesia and lychee it would be a very summery, floral, light fragrance, but the vanilla, patchouli and musk really give it a warmth. Apparently this is an exact dupe for Victor & Rolf Flowerbomb, which I haven’t tried before so I can’t agree or disagree.
This fragrance smells a lot more expensive than it is – at R420 it’s in the drugstore fragrance range – and is a lot more sophisticated than you would imagine it to be. It definitely reminds me a lot of something I have tried in the past, either a Chanel or a Dior fragrance, but I can’t figure out which one. This isn’t a girly floral at all, more of a woody, musky floral – if that makes sense and is an actual thing! I think it is a perfect winter scent as I find it comforting as opposed to fresh and invigorating. The scent lasts amazingly well for an EDT, and I still get whiffs of it when I move around five to eight hours after applying it.
I will try to find out which Edgars stores carry Korres. I know in Cape Town you can get this from Edgars Canal Walk. If anybody knows which other stores stock it, please leave a comment in the box.
