Hair Sidekicks

This is a follow on from my Hair Heroes post which I did last month. I wanted to mention a few other hair products which I really like and which are like batman’s Robin, sometimes overlooked in favour of the superhero. Doesn’t mean they don’t kick ass too though.

First up, I often use the John Frieda Full Repair Deep Infusion on the ends of my hair, even if I’m already using my beloved Kerastase Elixir Ultime on the lengths. I do have split ends, so every little bit helps to prevent this from getting worse. Actually, a haircut would help, but until someone offers to give me one I suspect I will keep letting it grow cave-woman style. I found using this alone didn’t give my hair quite as much softness as the Kerastase, but it is an added boost for the ends of my hair, helps protect against any further damage and adds moisture. It is also a hell of a lot more affordable at R110. Available at Clicks.

I have had the Kiehl’s Creme with Silk Groom for absolutely ages – as you can see by the label! – and although I hardly ever use it, I have no idea why not because it is honestly fabulous stuff. A little goes a long way, and I found using too much can weigh my hair down as it is a cream rather than an oil (my hair seems to absorb oil much more happily). So gently does it. Containing wheat protein, soy protein and jojoba oil, it conditions and protects hair before styling. I comb a small amount through my hair before blow drying and it leaves my hair incredibly silky and soft. I need to get to Kiehl’s to confirm the price of this.

Another big favourite of mine is the Gosh Argan Oil. This Moroccan hair oil is suitable for all hair types and really contains high concentrations of Argan oil – I think it is third on the ingredient list. I really believe strongly in the benefits of Argan oil for hair (and skin!) and this hair oil actually delivers that benefit. My hair always feels great after I use this. I would happily use this after every wash, but I’m still using predominantly the Kerastase Elixir Ultime. When I finish that up I will use this one instead until the last drop is finished.  It is also an affordable option for anyone looking for an Argan oil hair product, costing only R89 compared with some other brands topping R300 plus. Gosh is available at selected Edgars stores.
