If you have been following my blog for a while you might have picked up that I’m a huge fan of Earthchild. Every season when a new collection comes out I can’t resist sharing my favourites from the range, and my daughter has been wearing Earthchild clothing since she was about two years old. It’s my favourite brand for a number of reasons, first and foremost because they are eco-friendly, and their organic cotton clothing is the very best quality.
I was invited to see their new recycled concept store in the V&A Waterfront and it was like coming home, except that my home had undergone an Extreme Makeover Home Edition. I’ve spent many hours shopping at Earthchild over the past three years, but the new store is so big, bright and full of the latest Spring & Summer collections that it was a bit hard to control myself.
Earthchild is very excited and proud of their new store, as they rightly should be. This store takes sustainability to the next level by being constructed entirely from recycled shop fittings and upcycled pallets, with minimal to no use of steel (as it has a high carbon footprint), and no aluminium. There is also LED lighting, non-toxic paint, and 3000 handmade wire hangers crafted by Tendai, a local wire artist, using wire sourced from scrap. Tendai was at the media launch and his face was just beaming with pride. It was probably the most heart-warming part of the event. The breakfast courtesy of Melissa’s deserves a mention too!
Earthchild wanted their clothing to be as earth-friendly as possible, and have no expanded their green philosophy to their shop space, which has made me even more convinced that I’m supporting an amazing South African brand. You can shop online or view their range at www.earthchild.co.za or follow them on Twitter @earthchild_shop or Facebook.
I picked up a few cute items for the Moo and have plans to expand on it in the next month or two. You can always count on the Moo to be a) glam and b) green. She might be the next generation’s Glam Green Girl (but let’s not retire Cassidy quite yet…haha).
