I mentioned in my September Favourites video that since I hadn’t been shopping in September I was forced to focus on what I already have. I have quite a few items which I hardly use, and not because I don’t like them. It’s more a case of devoting my attention to the new bits, which I’m sure we are all guilty of. I am also not someone who keeps things for “best” and believe if you have something beautiful, whether it is Venetian wine glasses or a Dior eyeshadow palette, you should use and enjoy it. During September I loved using my special makeup, but also went hunting for something different for a change.
1. Revlon Lip Butters and Stila Convertible Colour. I have hardly touched these Revlon lip butters in Pink Lemonade, Juicy Papaya and Wild Watermelon – and I don’t know why! They are so comfortable and moisturising, they really feel like a lip balm. I love Wild Watermelon and Juicy Papaya but don’t like the milky, baby pink shade of Pink Lemonade (one for the charity drawer). They’re just what my lips need when they’re feeling dry and affordable enough to chuck in my handbag without worry. The Stila Convertible Colour in Peony is an old favourite, and I was reminded why every time I was in a rush. It’s the ultimate multi-tasker for lips and cheeks which has such a beautiful, natural colour and dewy finish on the cheeks.
2. Stila Smudge Crayon in Smoke, L’Oreal Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara in purple, and Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Fuller Fudge. I’ve been having so much fun with all my eyeshadow palettes that I’ve totally neglected my cream shadow sticks. These particular shades from Stila and Clinique are favourites of mine and perfect for doing a low-key, quick eye makeup. The Stila smudge crayon (R229.95) also has a sharpener on the end, so it can be used as an eyeliner or a shadow. The Clinique Shadow Tints (R230) are a bit fat and rounded for easy application, but pop some messily on the mobile lid and blend out with your fingers for a very simple eye. Lastly, I’ve really been using the Miss Manga mascara (R139.95) a lot lately. The purple is so subtle but enhances green eyes, and the actual wand and formula are winners. This is definitely my favourite drug store mascara.
3. MAC Blankety, YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis a Levres #27, and Smashbox O Gloss Gold. MAC Blankety (R195) is my favourite nude lipstick. It’s so creamy and comfortable to wear, very opaque and the perfect “my lips but better” shade. Not too pink, not too brown. I’ve also rediscovered my Smashbox O Gloss Gold (R210) which is a really gorgeous intuitive lip gloss which changes to a shade of peach with gold shimmer. It is also good for wearing over any lipstick to add a hint of gold. Another peach favourite which I sometimes overlook (how is this even possible?) is the YSL Glossy Stain in Peche Cerra-Colla. Glossy, long-lasting and such a pretty shade, I love the formula of these glossy stains, although they smell slightly weird.
4. Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in Kitten, Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, Clinique Blushing Blush in Aglow. This Stila liquid highlighter has been severely neglected in favour of powder highlighters the past few months. It is a beautiful pale gold which blends in well and isn’t too obvious or overpowering. I got this as part of the Best of Kitten set which you can still get on Zando and Rubybox. My Estee Lauder Double Wear (R415) is always overlooked in favour of more hydrating formulas, but I had forgotten how useful it is for days when I need more coverage which is going to last all day long. Lastly, Clinique blush in Aglow (R300) is one of my all-time favourite blushes and I think everyone needs this in their collection! It is a gorgeous beige/pink/peach combo with a golden sheen which is so flattering.
Sorry that this was such a long post, but I really thought these products deserved a shout out. I can recommend all of them if you’re looking for something new to try!
