And the list goes on… If you missed part one of my 2014 makeup favourites you can find it here. Today I am covering my favourite lipglosses, eyeshadow palettes and blushes. I tried to do lipsticks but ended up with nearly every lipstick I own gathered up in my arms, so decided to skip that category (although formula-wise I adored the Dior Fluid Stick, Clinique Chubby Stick Intense and MAC creamsheens).
Favourite lip gloss. I actually gave up trying to pick favourite lipsticks because I ended up with nearly every lipstick I own gathered up in my arms. Bobbi Brown high shimmer gloss in bare peach was possibly by most-used gloss of 2014. It was limited edition as part of their Nectar & Nude collection, but the nude peach shade pairs well with so many lipsticks and the shimmer in it is beautiful. It also has a lovely minty tingle and scent. Clarins gloss prodige was also one of my favourite gloss formulas. This shade, coral tulip, was released for spring. The shimmer particles you see in the tube just make lips look fuller and these have a lovely fruity scent. The colour is also pigmented enough to show up well on the lips. I have since got another shade and will be adding to my gloss prodige collection this year! Lastly, this Chanel levres scintillantes (hope I spelled that correctly) glossimer in bliss I only got towards the end of the year (so I’m cheating) but became a firm favourite, not just this limited edition colour but the formula as well. All three of these gloss formulas are comfortable and hydrating to wear, like a lip balm, and the Chanel and Clarins are not at all sticky.
Favourite eyeshadows. My most-used palettes of 2014 were the Urban Decay Naked palette, the Stila Eyes are the Windows Spirit palette and Too Faced Natural Eyes. As you can see, I’m all about the nude and natural eyeshadows! Sadly the Naked palette ($55) and the Too Faced palette ($45) aren’t available here, but if you only plan to invest in one neutral palette then Naked might be your best bet and isn’t too difficult to order online. The Stila palettes are available at selected Woolworths and Truworths. My other favourite eyeshadow of 2014 was an illusion d’ombre cream shadow from Chanel. The shade, new moon, was limited edition but this beautiful sheer bronze glitter shade is still one of my favourite things to wear on my lids.
Favourite blush. This was a tough one because blush is my favourite makeup item and I own a lot of them. Each one is precious and I try to rotate through them equally, so I picked out six for this category. Clinique blush in aglow, because this nude peach shade with a golden sheen is one I will never tire of. The most natural-looking blush of the year award goes to MAC Kelly Osbourne blush in cheeky bugger (LE) because it goes with everything and anything. I used the Chanel Joues Contraste blush in accent from their 2013 holiday collection throughout 2014. I love their powder blush, which smells like roses and lasts so well on my skin. This shade is a lovely nude pinky bronze with face-sculpting abilities.
Another favourite was Chanel Cream Blush in Cheeky. I suspect this was yet another limited edition shade, but I loved Chanel cream blush in general during 2014. This particular shade gives a wonderful bronze glow for summer but is subtle enough to wear in winter too. I also bought this blush in two other shades. Clarins Multi-Blush Cream Blush came out in 2014 with their spring collection and was my idea of perfection in a cream blush. Long lasting, sheer enough to look totally natural, yet pigmented enough to show up on the cheeks, dewy enough to create a healthy glow but not too dewy or shiny. I have shade 02 candy. My gran, by the way, is on her second one of these already! Lastly, one of my favourite releases of 2014 was Clinique Cheek Pop Blush which has to be included for its prettiness, not to mention the lovely sheen it gives skin (without being shimmery), its blendability and it’s awesome lasting power. I have this in plum pop (pictured) and ginger pop.
