REN is kind of hitting the ball out of the park lately with their new products. I have a long-term relationship with their Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask, and then along came the Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial – innovative and such a pleasure to use – and now they’ve introduced their Instant Firming Beauty Shot. I saw this on overseas blogs a while ago and couldn’t wait for it to reach SA, and now it finally has. I love serums and treatment products, so I was excited to give this one a try. It’s part of their Keep Young & Beautiful anti-aging range.
I’ve been using it for over a month, and I’ve been quite pleased with the results. I usually look for treatment products which can help fade marks from blemishes, deal with pigmentation and boost radiance etc. but this serum really just gets back to basics and helps plump up the skin and smooth it out, which in turn gives you that youthful texture which is sometimes lost when skin is dehydrated.
In a nutshell, it is mainly a hyaluronic acid serum, and since hyaluronans hold up to 1000 times their weight in water they really help your skin to stay moisturised and plump up fine lines. One of the contributors to wrinkles is loss of hyaluronic acid in the skin, so this serum helps to replenish the skin, increase cell turnover, and basically do all sorts of good things to smooth your skin and improve texture.
I’ve been using two drops morning and night before applying my regular serum. If you don’t overdo it, the serum absorbs incredibly quickly and dries down. If you use too much it leaves skin slightly tacky. It doesn’t feel particularly hydrating in itself, but as it is followed by moisturiser (or serum and then moisturiser) I think it helps the absorption of the products that follow. My preferred method is to mist my face lightly with Avene Thermal Spring Water first, and then apply this serum to slightly damp skin.
The Keep Young & Beautiful Instant Firming Beauty Shot will be available from REN counters and online from 16th March, and will be sold at the launch price of R450 until the end of April, and thereafter R475.
