A Garden Wedding

I am now officially old. My little brother Llewellyn and his now-wife Denise got married on 1st May, and I had the honour and huge responsibility of doing the bride’s makeup. I did a post on my friend Kath’s beach wedding – my first bridal makeup attempt which you can see the results of here – so I thought it would be nice to do a garden wedding hair & makeup post to share this big occasion with you all.

No idea why I have her head in a vice grip…

They had their garden wedding ceremony and reception at Monchique in Hout Bay, with a pale mauve colour scheme. I used the Dior 5 Couleurs Kingdom of Colours palette in house of pinks which has some lovely mauve and plum undertones in it. I wanted it to be defining and enhancing but still very natural in keeping with a morning garden theme, and it was fun to play around with a bit of colour.

I used mostly Dior makeup because this was a very special occasion. The Dior Pore Minimizer primer is a miracle worker for smoothing away pores and keeping makeup intact. I also used the Diorskin Nude Star foundation in 10, Diorskin Nude Tan in 003 Zenith and Diorskin Nude Shimmer in 01 Rose. I purchased the Bobbi Brown lipstick in sandwash pink especially for the bride. This is the same shade that the Duchess of Cambridge wore for the royal wedding #funfact. I was very excited to be able to use my new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette, dim light for setting the overall makeup and the middle shade, incandescent light, as a very subtle highlight.

Garden Wedding Makeup

The wedding was really beautiful and was definitely a family affair. We all chipped in to do our bit and managed to pull it together in about four months. They were so lucky that the sun decided to peep out on the day when it had been raining and gloomy all week, and because it was a very small wedding it was intimate and relaxed. Here are a few snaps of our family’s big day (I say “our day” because it really did feel like a team effort)! Thank you to the aforementioned Kath for taking the photos…and making the wedding cake too!
