I can’t believe how quickly time has flown since I started the Kiehl’s 28-day #ChangeYourSkin challenge with Beauty Bulletin! As a beauty blogger I’m always trying new things, sometimes to my detriment. My skin prefers stability and I’m always switching things up for the sake of science (or reviews at the very least). Using these serums consistently for four full weeks twice daily has surprised me. I discovered that I’ve seriously been missing out when it comes to two of them (the Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum and Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution) and these are joining my list of ‘products to always and forever have on hand’.
I was hoping to have better luck with the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, as I have bought it in the past and didn’t have very noticeable results, so passed it on to my mom. This time around I did see an initial improvement in the way my skin felt (softer and more nourished) when I woke up in the mornings, and I had high hopes, but as it contains squalene I had to stop using it. Because oxidised squalene is a contributor to acne, if you are blemish-prone or trying to break the cycle of acne, then you don’t really want to add squalene to the mix. When I stopped using it, I stopped getting new breakouts. I did miss how moisturised my skin felt when I was using it.
Here is my four week journey in pictures…
The Hydro-Plumping serum (R675 at Kiehl’s counters) really got rid of my dehydration and smoothed out the fine lines around my eyes, and the Clearly Corrective Serum (R655 at Kiehl’s counters) did an amazing job of getting rid of redness, red marks from blemishes and generally evening out my skin tone. I saw some results after the first week.
By the end of week two I didn’t see a big difference overall, but I noticed my redness was really going away. I didn’t see any difference in my pores at this point.
The week two to week three results were also similar but I felt that the texture of my skin had improved and was more refined. I was pretty happy overall.
And finally, this is my start picture before I began the challenge, compared to my final picture after four weeks. I think when put side by side the difference is really visible. My pores are less noticeable, the redness and breakouts are basically banished, and I think my skin tone and texture just looks 100 times better. Sure, the mascara and lip gloss are making me look better, but I think the end result was way more than I had hoped for when beginning the challenge.
Yes, I did use other products while I was doing the challenge. Because of my breakouts I also used the Sebium Global to address those, and a weekly glycolic acid mask from Dermaceutic (Mask 15). But I think the Kiehl’s serums contributed a lot to the improvement in my skin and two of the three I will happily repurchase when they run out.
It is also worth noting that I still have a lot of product left after four weeks, so although they are a bit costly they do last for a good length of time because a little goes a long way.
