I have had the Hean bronzer (available from Glamore Cosmetics online) for quite a while now and have been meaning to do a review, but I thought it would be nice to incorporate it into a full makeup post. Summer is the best time to wear golds and bronzes – they remind me of suntans and beach sand – and this has overtaken my Body Shop honey bronzer as my most-reached-for everyday bronzer. As it is comprised of three shades you can customise your colour to a degree. Although there is some shimmer in it, it isn’t noticeable from anyone else’s point of view. You can detect the particles if you examine your face up close in a mirror, but overall it just gives skin a natural healthy-looking glow and really perks my face up when my skin is dull or fatigued. It’s super affordable at R135 and therefore makes a great daily product.
One of my absolute favourite products of summer 2015/16 has been the Dior Fusion Mono eyeshadow in Meteore. This cream shadow is sparkling golden perfection in my humble opinion, and can be used on top of other shadows to add a hint of sparkle or on its own swiped across the whole lid for a quick, simple and pretty daytime look. It isn’t a waterproof formula but it lasts relatively well with some fading during the day which is easy to top up. It doesn’t crease even when worn without a primer. Obviously this is a luxury product (I think I paid about R460), but I get so much use out of it and the pot still looks as full as the day I bought it, so to me it is great value for my money.
Another new product in my makeup bag this summer is the Max Factor creme puff blush in alluring rose. I got this in a press pack and immediately loved how pretty the marbled effect is. It’s a combination of a shimmery peach shade and a rose bronze, which on my fair skin looks a bit like bronzer/highlight and blush combined. It packs some pigment and I use it quite sparingly, but a light dusting on my cheeks and up to my temples makes me look like I’ve caught a bit of sun. It’s a nifty little lightweight compact perfect for popping into a small makeup bag, and it’s a very affordable R119.95 at Clicks (and comes in four shades. I’ll be picking up lovely pink, a pale peachy pink version, too when I’m next at Clicks).
Here is how I cobbled some old and new favourites together to create a golden bronze face of the day. I often wear variations of this look and either smoke it up a bit for evenings or special occasions or take it down a notch by just wearing some gloss and replacing the foundation for tinted sunscreen. For this picture I used my favourite foundation, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in B20. I know everyone makes a big deal about brows because they can make you look so much more ‘put together’ but to be honest I usually forget to do mine. As I’m almost guaranteed to be floating on the ocean with a face full of salt water at some point in the day, I ain’t got time for worrying about my eyebrows #sorrynotsorry. But for this face of the day I used Benefit Gimme Brow, because it’s the lazy full-browed girl’s dream come true. Clarins Be Long Mascara (an old favourite) and Estee Lauder Pure Color lipstick in Beige topped with some Rouge Dior in Carre d’Or finished off the nude-toned look.
